Birthmark and Mole Removal for Children
Birthmarks and mole removal is a cosmetic pediatric service offered by Dr. Eric Cerrati at his Park City office. Birthmarks and moles are similar in that they are both pigmented lesions that may be present at birth or develop shortly after birth. They can occur anywhere on the body, and many are in unnoticeable places so that children do not even realize they have a birthmark or mole. Some children get birthmarks and moles that are bothersome. However, others don’t even know they have them. Most birthmarks and moles are harmless and best left alone.
When a birthmark or mole becomes an irritant or interferes with bodily functions, they must be removed for good health. There are also times when the aesthetic aspects of a birthmark or mole is such that your child would be better off having it treated or removed. If your child has a birthmark or mole that needs treatment, Dr. Cerrati can examine it and determine if it is harmless or poses a risk for a more serious medical condition.
Uniquely Skilled and Experienced Pediatric Surgeon
During a 5-year residency in head and neck surgery at New York University, Dr. Cerrati worked alongside one of the most prominent facial plastic surgeons in the world, Dr. David Rosenberg. He was also privileged to spend time working with Dr. Milton Waner, the founder of the Vascular Birthmark Institute of New York. This experience provided him with unique training in pediatric facial plastic surgery, addressing many rare congenital anomalies. As a result, Dr. Cerrati has seen and treated a wide variety of birthmarks and moles on children.
Many treatments exist for moles and birthmarks that present problems, either functionally or for aesthetic reasons. Dr. Cerrati uses the most advanced techniques available and prefers to choose minimally invasive options first. Treatments can include chemical peels and laser therapy.
