All plastic surgeons want to excel in their field, and Dr. Eric Cerrati is no different. He strives to investigate revolutionary treatment and improve on existing procedures. Although his patients consistently report that his surgeries exceeded their aesthetic expectations, Dr. Cerrati cares about the whole client experience – including any impact on overall quality of life.
As such, Dr. Cerrati was delighted to both present and take part in a panel at the Vegas Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic Dermatology Symposium (VCS) in June 2021. VCS represents a gathering of leading practitioners, researchers and educators, and Dr. Cerrati was proud to contribute to this elite committee.
A Revolution in Post-Operative Pain Management?
Dr. Cerrati takes patient recovery post-surgery extremely seriously, not only with regard to the procedure, but how the recuperation period affects the resumption of daily life. While his patients are very satisfied with the surgery results, many expressed discomfort with post-operative pain management.
Side effects from narcotic pain control include vomiting, dizziness, sedation and itchy skin. This impacted the convalescent’s ability to walk, drive, work or feel normal. Additionally, an opioid abuse epidemic is sweeping America. Statistics show that a significant number of those prescribed opiates will abuse them, with a concerning minority developing an addiction or moving on to harder drugs such as heroin.
Accordingly, Dr. Cerrati has been investigating a possible alternative with Celecoxib. In his observations of 151 facelift and rhinoplasty patients, those given Celecoxib reported feeling completely alert 48 hours following surgery. They reported far fewer adverse effects such as nausea and vomiting, and required less pain medication to be prescribed and consumed overall. The ramifications of this study could revolutionize how post-operative pain is managed.
Sharing Knowledge to Shape the Face of the Future
At VCS, Dr. Cerrati gladly took part in a panel discussion with several of his esteemed peers. The aim was to prevent and solve surgical complications. Topics spanned unfavorable scarring and asymmetry to issues like preventing infection and deep vein thrombosis, with Dr. Cerrati sharing his findings on alterative post-operative pain management.
Dr. Cerrati believes that patient comfort and well-being are at the heart of plastic surgery and constantly strives to improve the industry and educate others.
